College Football 27 players want a Road to Glory XP slider after paid progression was removed.

EA Sports has already responded to the biggest controversy surrounding College Football 27. Just days after launch, the publisher confirmed it would remove paid progression from Road to Glory and Online Dynasty following widespread criticism from players and content creators.

For many fans, however, that was not the end of the discussion. Attention quickly shifted to another issue: whether Road to Glory will regain an adjustable XP slider or similar progression controls. Players are asking that question across the internet, but as of July 12, EA has not announced that such a feature is returning.

EA moved quickly after the paid progression backlash

The backlash escalated almost immediately after College Football 27 launched. Players argued that tying character progression to optional purchases fundamentally changed the feel of Road to Glory, a mode built around developing a college football career through gameplay.

The criticism spread rapidly under the #CFBPlayDontPay hashtag, with creators and longtime fans questioning the decision.

On July 10, EA acknowledged that feedback and announced it would remove paid progression from Road to Glory and Online Dynasty the following morning. By July 11, players were reporting that the paid progression options no longer appeared in Road to Glory.

It was an unusually fast response for a major sports release and showed that EA was willing to change course after seeing the scale of the reaction.

EA plans new Dynasty settings, not an RTG slider

While the paid progression announcement dominated headlines, another detail in EA's Worldwide Launch Community Update received less attention.

EA announced three Coach XP Speed Settings for an upcoming Dynasty title update, giving players more control over how quickly coaches develop:

  • Casual: 1.5x XP
  • Simulation: 1.25x XP
  • Career: 1.0x XP

Those settings are planned specifically for Dynasty. Road to Glory was addressed separately.

Rather than announcing an XP slider or progression-speed option, EA explained that Road to Glory progression is built around gameplay performance, weekly activities and attribute upgrades earned throughout a player's career. The studio also said that higher difficulty settings award additional experience, tying progression to on-field performance instead of purchases.

What EA did not announce was an adjustable XP speed slider for Road to Glory. That distinction has become the focus of the community's latest discussion.

Players shifted from monetization to progression

Once paid progression was removed, the next wave of discussion centered on progression itself rather than monetization.

Player discussions posted after EA's announcement keep returning to the same question: if Dynasty is due to receive adjustable progression settings, why is Road to Glory not getting the same flexibility?

The conversations vary in tone, but they return to a few recurring requests. Some players want XP slider options from previous entries to return. Others simply want more control over the pace of a Road to Glory career without changing the gameplay difficulty.

Similar requests continue appearing online as players discuss progression speed and customization following the removal of paid progression.

Community feedback is not confirmation that changes are planned. It does show that player attention has moved beyond monetization and toward how Road to Glory progression is balanced.

EA has not announced an RTG XP slider

One mistake would be to assume EA has rejected requests for an XP slider. The company has not said that.

As of July 12, EA has not announced that an adjustable XP slider is coming to Road to Glory. It has not said the feature will never return, either.

EA's public messaging has focused on explaining the redesigned progression system while promising more design details during the week beginning July 13.

For now, players are left waiting to see whether Road to Glory eventually receives progression customization similar to Dynasty or continues using its current performance-based system.

The next update could determine where the conversation goes

EA's removal of paid progression closed one part of College Football 27's launch controversy, but it did not end the wider discussion around Road to Glory. The latest debate is less about monetization and more about player control.

Some players welcomed the reversal. Others immediately turned to the missing XP controls and asked whether removing the purchases would also mean restoring more freedom over progression speed.

Whether that takes the form of an XP slider or another progression option remains unclear. Paid progression is gone from Road to Glory and Online Dynasty, Dynasty is due to receive additional speed settings, and EA has not announced an XP slider for Road to Glory. The company's promised design update is now the next concrete point to watch.
